This position requires a customer service oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills for the purpose of performing clerical and receptionist duties as well as serving as a patient coordinator/liaison for referrals, pre-certifications and authorizations. This qualified person is responsible for working closely with physicians’ offices to schedule patient care. Is able to work quickly and accurately to multitask effectively, problem solve, make independent decisions and prioritize work without direct observational supervision. Some independent decision making which is always in the best interest of the department is important.

This position reports to the Imaging Services Director
This position is hourly (non-exempt)

Clinical Practice/Position Duties
1. Upholds Newton Medical Center vision, mission, and core values.
2. Follows hospital-wide and departmental policies, including but not limited to general procedures, assigned duties, confidentiality, and observing the Patient’s Bill of Rights.
3. First point of patient contact
• Able to receive the public with appropriate responses and tone
• Greets all Imaging patients, assures their identity, and scheduled procedures
• Is knowledgeable of what to do with visitors and able to direct them to the appropriate areas
4. Answering the phone with proper phone etiquette and performing multi-line phone operations
5. Schedules appointments independently and correctly and can identify any potential conflicts
6. Able to obtain referring physician orders as necessary
7. Able to obtain outside facility images and reports as necessary
8. Utilizes standard precautions appropriately
9. Maintains full responsibility and provides care for patients as assigned.

Job Requirements

Knowledge and skills:
1. Being organized, and having strong customer service skills, and having strong technology skills Microsoft office programs are critical to the success of the person in this position.
2. Requires a detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills who can perform clerical and administrative support.
3. The care coordination specialists must be able to carry out duties as instructed without direct observational supervision. This position requires an individual who can work well with different people and is adept at managing varying duties and multiple tasks and who is flexible and able to successfully work with constantly changing priorities, timeframes, and deadlines.
4. Applies common sense and logic in the performance of job duties, and in responding to customer needs.
5. General knowledge regarding medical terminology.

Education and experience:
1. 1 year office/clerical/medical experience preferred
2. High School Education or equivalent required
3. Computer experience preferred
4. Customer Service experience preferred
