The Nurse Technician works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide quality care that is focused on the comfort and well-being of the patient and family.

This position requires a customer service oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills for the purpose of delivering care and services to patients from diverse ethnic and social groups. Able to carry out duties as instructed without direct observational supervision. Some independent decision making which is always in the best interest of the patient/family is important.

This position reports to the unit Nurse Manager and is supervised by the Staff and Charge Nurse

B. Levels of Nurse Technicians:

1. Nurse Technician I: Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program with successful completion of at least one full semester of clinical nursing. At this level the Nurse Technician will be able to perform all basic CNA duties as well as duties specified in Nurse Technician I competencies.

2. Nurse Technician II: Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program with successful completion of at least two full semesters of clinical nursing and completion of Nurse Technician II competencies.

3. Nurse Technician III: Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program with successful completion of at least three semesters of clinical nursing and completion of Nurse Technician III competencies.

4. Nurse Technicians in the operating room will perform scrub technician duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A. Knowledge and skills:

1. Demonstrates interpersonal relationships in a manner which enhances communication, promotes conflict resolution and facilitates staff development.

2. Working knowledge of computer and email systems required.

3. Knowledge of communication skills with ability to listen both verbally and non-verbally.

4. Skill in interpersonal relationships with emphasis on respect, excellence, service and trust.

5. Skill in time management with the ability to work independently and take initiative within their scope of practice.

6. Ability to take direction, work efficiently under pressure, set priorities and use good judgment.

7. Ability to willingly accept responsibility.

Job Requirements

Education:

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

2. Must be currently enrolled in a state accredited RN program.

3. Must have successfully completed the first semester of the state accredited RN program.

4. Must submit a copy of their grades at the end of each semester of the RN program to their Nurse Manager.  If the cumulative nursing GPA falls below 3.0 or if the student received a grade of “D” or lower in any Nursing class regardless of the cumulative GPA or they do not provide their Nurse Manager with a copy of their grades, they are immediately no longer able to be employed as a Nurse Technician.

5. Must submit a school schedule for the next semester of the RN program to their Nurse Manager. If they do not re-enroll in the RN program for any reason or do not provide their Nurse Manager with a school schedule, they are immediately no longer able to be employed as a Nurse Technician.
