Position Summary:

The Payment Specialist, under the direction of the Senior Accountant, is responsible for posting all incoming money receipts to the Hospital and Clinics.  This includes insurance payment posting with adjustments, patient balance payments, and outside parties accounts receivable payments. The position provides important support to the Clinical and Hospital Billing staff.


Review and take appropriate action of incoming mail and correspondence.

Balance the hospital Petty Cash Funds, as assigned.
Reconcile and replenish the hospital Petty Cash

Funds monthly, as assigned

Post all payments, including insurance payments and contractual adjustments accurately on the day received.

Report any unusual payments/adjustments/denials to Supervisor.

Reconcile daily cash and balance to Accounts Receivable system.

Remote deposit checks, as assigned

Take cash deposits to the bank, as assigned.

Apply write-offs and contractual adjustments correctly.

Scan or file documents.

Communicate and work with Payment Specialist team to ensure the duties of the team are completed each day, assisting other team members as necessary.

Communicate and work with Payment Specialist team to ensure all payments are posted in appropriate computer system.

Perform other duties as requested by Supervisor.
Participate in ongoing and annual educational activities.

Display enthusiasm & interest for work & a willingness to expand professional knowledge base.

Job Requirements

1. High school diploma or equivalent is required.
2. Previous banking or insurance posting experience preferred
3. Ability to learn and use multiple computer systems/software applications.
4. Ability to read Explanation of Payments or Explanation of Benefits Statements
5. Ability to create basic Excel spreadsheets.
6. Ability to count cash and make change.
7. Ability to perform reconciliation of accounts.
8. Proficient in 10 Key.
