Position Summary:

Registrars are responsible for registration of patients, running the switchboard and other related duties.  Registrars report to the Registration Supervisor and to the Manager of Patient Access.

1. Performs patient registrations timely and accurately. 
2. Receives and interviews incoming patients, relatives, and significant others to obtain pertinent data and signatures.  Completes Medicare Secondary Payor questionnaires.
3. Escorts patients or arranges transportation for patients to the proper room or department, as needed.
4. Distributes registration records to appropriate departments.
5. Researches accounts for missing or inaccurate demographic &/or insurance information.  Obtains signatures on consents of previously registered patients.
6. Makes additional contacts to verify automobile, liability, workers compensation insurance, as assigned.
7. Requests referrals &/or precertifications from physicians, as assigned.
8. Explains the payment policies of Newton Medical Center, as needed.  Refers questions to the appropriate person.  Receives payments, as presented.
9. Receives and processes valuables according to hospital policy.
10.Assumes responsibility for operating switchboard, as scheduled or requested, including relief for breaks.
11.Utilizes all features of the switchboard console.  Handles calls politely and efficiently.

Job Requirements

Education and Requirements:

1.High school diploma or equivalent.
2.Capable of operating or learning to operate switchboard.
3.Displays competency at typing and with computer skills.
4.Is able to multitask effectively.
5.Expresses commitment to providing good customer service when dealing with patients, families, visitors, volunteers, physicians, and other employees.
